West End United Methodist Church / Nashville TN

West End is one of my spiritual birthplaces. I am honored they asked me to be the first artist to speak at a new series, a series that connects the work of writers with the issues of spirituality. I will be their guest for a dinner on Friday evening and read a bit from new work and be interviewed by Michael Williams, the senior minister, a noted storyteller and writer in his own right. On Saturday, I will conduct a workshop in the morning — The Daily in the Daily & The Divine in the Daily. The events are separate, one can attend either the dinner or the workshop or both.
I asked specifically if my non-West End friends could come, and they assured me that you are welcome. In fact, they have stories to tell you.

Lenten Wednesdays Lecture Series
Wednesday, March 16, 23, 30 and April 6, 13, 2011

This past August, one of my good friends — Dale the Clem, Himself — invited me to spend a week with him and with some of his friends, in a retreat setting where we talked about writing and such. One of his friends, — and one of my friends now — is an Episcopal priest named Bob Blackwell. Bob has asked me to come and be with him and his parish for a Lenten series. I will be in Cullman each Wednesday during this coming Lent for supper and a reading. He assures me that any of my Alabama friends, all of them even, can join in any or all of the Wednesdays. I assure you that I will be disappointed if you do not.
